Could the SSA have the backlog that tops all backlogs?

Here's a trivia question for your Friday afternoon: What federal government agency has a backlog that is the largest in the nation? If you guessed the Veteran's Administration, you would be wrong; even though you would be justified in guessing it. After all, there are more than 500,000 claims in flux, and waiting times for appointments are more than three months long.  If you think it's the U.S. Patent Office, you would be wrong again, even though the estimated 606,000 patents pending approval is shockingly high.

2015 COLA increase to be 1.7 percent

This year, the economy's growth (even though a slight stock market decline has investors concerned) has tabled any discussion about funding bills.

ABLE Act gains momentum, will likely be approved by Congress

Despite the reported gridlock in Congress before the fall break, it appears that lawmakers have an agreement on legislation that would allow people with disabilities to save money without jeopardizing their government benefits. According to a story produced by disabilityscoop.com, the Achieving a Better Life Experience (or ABLE) Act will proceed to a vote once Congress reconvenes in November.

More disabled characters to be seen on television shows this fall

It will be a number of weeks before we know which new shows will survive the fall season, but one thing is clear from the outset. There will be more characters with disabilities portrayed on network shows this year compared to last year. This news comes courtesy of disabilityscoop.com, which highlighted a report produced by GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).
